Phil Neville believes that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will set the world alight this season.
The France international arrived at Old Trafford last summer with huge pressure on his shoulders after he was bought from Juventus in a world-record £89m deal.
The general consensus was that Pogba did not live up to his price tag, but he was influential at times from the middle of the park.
Last season, the 24-year-old made 51 appearances in all competitions and scored nine goals.
He also ended the campaign with a League Cup winners’ medal and the Europa League trophy.
Neville, who spent 10 years playing for United after coming through their youth ranks, believes that Pogba will step up a gear in Jose Mourinho’s team this season.
While at the launch of Soccer Saturday Super 6, Neville told Sky Sports:
“Pogba came in on the back of a World Cup last season – he didn’t have much rest. Obviously, the price tag was a massive burden on him. I think United will be getting a fresher Pogba this season, especially as he’s got one year of the Premier League under his belt.
“He’ll know more about what’s required and we’ll see big things from him. He’s the player I’m most excited about. If he takes a game by the scruff of the neck, he can be as good as the best midfielders in the world.”
Pogba seems to be doing some work for United off the pitch this summer as his friendship with Romelu Lukaku seemingly played a part in getting the Everton forward to sign for United.
