As reported by The Sun, Manchester United are interested in signing Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler.
What’s the story?
The upcoming January transfer window is an important one for Man United. With the club expected to be competing for major honours in the tail-end of the season, bringing in reinforcements could be the difference between silverware and not.
One of the areas of the team that could do with freshening up is central midfield, with an over-reliance on Paul Pogba threatening to derail their campaign if he gets injured again.
As a solution, Jose Mourinho is looking to La Liga and one of the brightest young prospects in the country.
That’s according to The Sun, who say the Portuguese has sounded out a potential move for Carlos Soler and that pursuit is boosted by his desire to join the club.
The paper reckon the 20-year-old is keen, having begged his club to let him make the move to Old Trafford.
Valencia value him highly though, according to the report, placing an asking price of £45m on his shoulders.
Who is he?
Soler burst onto the first team scene at Valencia last season and hasn’t looked back since. He’s been ever present in the side this term, making 13 appearances, scoring once and assisting four times.
With Spanish U21 caps too, it’s clear he’s a player who has a bright future in the game and could be exactly the type of creative talent the Red Devils need in the middle of the park.
With Marouane Fellaini in the last year of his contract, Soler could be a direct replacement, albeit offering a different, more dynamic style that should suit Mourinho’s side well.
If he’s eager for the move, as reported, then it’s one that they should pursue.
