AZ progressed to the final clash after defeating Sporting CP in a penalty shootout. The two teams were locked at 2-2 after 120 minutes of football and the Dutch side held their nerve to clinch a berth in the final by winning the shootout 4-3.
They had a remarkable run to the final as they had earlier beaten Frankfurt 5-0, Barcelona 3-0 (away) and Real Madrid 4-0 before coming out on top against Sporting.
Whereas, Hajduk Split got the better of AC Milan in the last four. It was complete domination by the Croatian outfit in the semifinal as they raced to a 3-0 lead. Kevin Zeroli for Milan pulled one back in the 83rd minute but it was too little too late to salvage anything from the match.
Hajduk became the first Croatian side to reach the last four in any UEFA football club competition since their senior side (representing Yugoslavia) did so in the 1983/84 UEFA Cup.

AZ Alkmaar team news
Goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro turned out to be the hero in the shootout after his save fired AZ to their first-ever European club final. He is going to keep his place between the sticks.
Coach Jan Sierksma likes to set up his team in a 4-2-3-1 formation and should do the same against Hajduk. Ernest Poku should lead the lines while he will be supported by Ro-Zangelo Daal, Fedde de Jong, and Jayden Addai.
However, the star player is Mexx Meerdink, who scored a hat-trick in the play-offs against Eintracht Frankfurt, and has seven goals in five matches in this competition.
He did not take part in the semi-finals as he was busy playing for the senior team in the UEFA Conference League.
However, he will miss the services of Finn Stam after he was given his marching orders against Sporting in the semi-final.
