With Rangers having already made 10 signings in the summer transfer window, you’d forgive their Director Of Football the day off on transfer deadline day, with almost an entire team arriving. However, that isn’t the case and Rangers will be as active as many others up to the midnight Scottish deadline.Pedro Caixinha himself admitted earlier this week that the club were still working on getting deals over the line, leading to speculation amongst supporters about who that could be and what position they play.Despite the raft of arrivals at Ibrox already, some fans still feel the squad is incomplete with a number of signings needed in key areas if they are going to truly compete with Celtic for honours in Scotland this season. So what deals are still in the fire, ready to be done? These are the THREE deals Rangers could still do before the window closes until January…
Declan John
If you’re looking for a deadline day banker then Declan John is your man. Multiple outlets, like The Daily Mail, report he will undergo a medical today ahead of a season-long loan deal. However, with just a year left on his deal at Cardiff City, there’s every chance that if he impresses he could join on a free next summer.
The 22-year-old has been at the Welsh club since he was a boy and has made 40 appearances at senior level. In 2013/14 he made 20 appearances at English Premier League level, giving him the kind of experience that could make him a hit at Ibrox.
He’ll add depth to Rangers’ left flank and would be competing for places with captain Lee Wallace. Supporters have been crying out for that at the club for a couple of transfer windows now so if the Gers can get the deal over the line on deadline day, it’s sure to make them happy.
Jamie Walker
Jamie Walker is the signing every Rangers supporter wants the club to make on deadline day and going into the last hours of the window it’s a deal still very much in the balance.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday night that the Light Blues had not returned with another bid due to Hearts’ £1m valuation. However, this morning well known transfer news instigator Jim White took to Twitter to say that the Ibrox clubÂwill make a renewed bid to sign him.
Whether that comes off remains to be seen, but it’s a deal that fans will be tracking all day and night. That’s because Walker would give them a huge boost in attack and offer a significant upgrade on their current left wing options.
The Hearts man scored 15 goals for Hearts last season, as many as any player at Rangers did last term and could be the missing piece of Pedro Caixinha’s attacking puzzle.
Kenny McLean
Another player Rangers have been linked with all summer, with outlets reporting as early as June of bids being lodged, Kenny McLean would be an outstanding deadline day buy for the club if they can get the deal done.
This morning The Express reported on their deadline day live page this morning that if Rangers want the player they can land him for £1m, having previously seen a £300,000 move rejected.
McLean has been a stand-out in the Scottish top-flight for years both at St Mirren and Aberdeen and could be the kind of signing they need to add attacking energy and creativity to their central midfield areas.
With Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack they have a solid midfield base but McLean offers more going forward, often willing at Aberdeen to make the run into the final third and give the opposition defensive line a tough afternoon.
