While the ex-Sporting CP manager is said to retain the 'full backing' of United's hierarchy for the time being, it is understood they will 'assess the situation and the trajectory of the team' after their next three fixtures, when there is another international break in October.

The report adds that despite privately insisting they still have faith in Amorim, United's football leadership team gave the same assurances to his predecessor, Erik ten Hag, before pulling the plug on the Dutchman nine games into last season in October 2024.

United have four points from four Premier League games this season and sit 14th in the table. The 40-year-old has won just eight of his 31 league games since taking charge last November, with some players said to be losing confidence in his system.
