Leeds United ace Wilfried Gnonto has been hailed for his display against Nottingham Forest which ultimately saw the Whites leave with no points.
What’s the latest?
It was another disappointing result for the Yorkshire side who now just sit above the relegation zone on goal difference with just a three-point gap to the bottom.
And it was three points for Forest which saw Steve Cooper’s men open up a six-point cushion on the Yorkshire club as they climbed up to 13th spot.
However, there was some positives to take from the game with the young Italian winger showing a lot of promise again throughout the game.
Indeed, speaking on Match of the Day 2, Leon Osman praised Gnonto for being the bright spark in Jesse Marsch’s attack on Sunday afternoon:
“Their whole attack certainly today was centred around this young man, Gnonto, who’s actually been terrific since he made his debut not too long ago.
“And today he was carrying Leeds United as a team, certainly their attack everything in the first half that was bright came through [him].”
Bright spark
Gnonto has now been hailed for his recent displays with the game against Aston Villa a few weeks ago being the game which put the Italian on the map.
And the 19-year-old certainly gave it a go on Sunday against Forest with the young Italian on the end of three challenges which won him a foul (via Sofascore).
Although he lost possession 22 times during the game, Gnonto was clearly the player who was trying to create something for Marsch’s side having attempted eight dribbles throughout the game.
On top of this, the 19-year-old provided five key passes and was able to create one big opportunity with the Whites looking for a way back into the game after Brennan Johnson’s early strike.
However, this positivity surrounding the Italian could come at a price in the summer with the youngster clearly attracting the attention of many around the league.
And with the Whites sitting in a precarious position in the league table, it would be easy to presume that if they fail to remain in the league convincingly, he could potentially have his head turned.
But despite all the positivity, he is clearly still a raw talent with a lot of room for improvement.
Losing the ball 22 times is something which he will need to work on but it is a sign of a player being willing to take a man on without fear and it is something which will surely provide Leeds fans with some encouragement.
