Maatsen's loan move has been so successful that his father has confirmed he is hoping to make the transfer permanent. Edward Maatsen has also criticised the current Chelsea ownership regime and questioned the club's priorities. The Blues have spent heavily since Boehly arrived, bringing in players such as Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Moises Caicedo, but have struggled on the pitch and currently sit down in ninth place in the Premier League table.

He told : "We are working on staying at the club [Dortmund]. The clubs have to fight it out among themselves. Ian is developing well here and things are not going well at Chelsea since they changed ownership. A lot at that club also revolves around money, which sometimes seems more important than the club's interests.
